To understand, analyse, describe, stabilise perceived security and to reduce social inequality within this field, it is necessary to use a complex and multidimensional security-concept like it is utilized within the research program KIRAS. Based on this broad KIRAS-security-concept a typology of the Austrian population was created (5 security types).
The five security types are:
(1) People with a strong sense of security (21%)
(2) People with higher sense of security (32%)
(3) People with high fear of crime (17%)
(4) People with extensive fear of social decline (21%)
(5) People with strong global uncertainty (8%)
The components of perceived security (social, economic, ecological, internal security etc.) were integrated and related on the basis of quantitative and qualitative research with a multidimensional approach. To use and disseminate the knowledge of the research a set of indicators was developed which allows other scientists to use them in their empirical studies. A compendium shows the results in an understandable way and explains how you can integrate the security types into your own study.
