The implementation of mediation and conflict resolution in police work is an important and logical development for resolving disputes, especially in socially deprived areas and within groups of different cultural backgrounds. Without such intervention, the situation can worsen and all too often result in crim project behaviour. Therefore the main aims of this project were

- to investigate the possible applications and the long Mediation alongside police work,

- to develop guidelines for the sustainable integration of procedure, and in this way to reduce the workload of the police.

In close liaison with the local police, this pilot project Gries, which has the highest percentage of migrants and socially disadvantaged people in Graz (County of Styria, Austria).

The results of the research and case studies were drawn up in a manual for Police Mediation “Polizeimediation. Grundlagen, Methoden, Abläufe”.
