Networked miniSPOT

“Low-budget, efficient and reliable” are the aims for the development of an overall concept for event detection in image sequences, within the project miniSPOT.net of the KIRAS program

“Low-budget, efficient and reliable” are the aims for the development of an overall concept for event detection in image sequences, within the bmvit/FFG-project miniSPOT.net of the KIRAS program. Coordinated by CogVis GmbH, the project deals with vehicle and human detection in confined spaces and elaborates and implements a proof-of-concept of a system tailored to the needs of commanc and control centers which automatically provides solely visual data to the operators in case of certain security relevant events. This is achieved by following the trend from analogue video surveillance systems towards IP based monitoring and recording systems and the trend of adding computational power and image processing and analysis functions on-the-spot of smart cameras. For that an all-in-one smart camera (miniSPOTs) is constructed, developed and applied and a lean embedded system is used in combination with a small camera similar to those of smart phones. In addition research on on the possibilities to link such devices by building automation networks as well as on social and society aspects of the concept are included. Due to the involvement of the partner Hel-Wacht and the fitting of their main command and control building with networked miniSPOTs a very important and central intersection regarding critical infrastructure security is included. This building has links to safety and security installations of many important end-users from public administration, health and other sectors and by improving the security of this system the overall security in Austria will be improved decisively.
