Identity creating functions, educational factors, added value and touristic relevance are amongst others reasons for the great social significance of art and culture in our country.

In addition to the current 248 museums of high quality, more than 1500 museums and similar institutions, secular and ecclesiastical archives are the collectors, administrators and keepers of movable cultural assets in Austria. Their central tasks include the transfer and utilization of knowledge about our past.

The core work areas - collection, cultural mediation, and marketing - usually don't leave much room for apparently secondary work areas, where by mistake also security is counted to. Too lean structures based on voluntary work in the field of cultural heritage, as well as ever-decreasing budgets, require co-operation and the creation of synergistic, efficient support measures.

However, support will only be accepted if the impulses are set by appropriate sides, if the recommended measures are understandable, reasonable and also manageable.

Consistent strategies and guide lines provide the greatest possible support in the given circumstances and ensure uniform procedures and quality.

Within the domain of security, there is a lack of a general consensus and a generally valid and broadly applicable policy with an evaluation tool, information and learning elements. These are intended to be used for secular cultural heritage protection, church monument preservation and for museums.

The project KuKuRisk will

• define safety-relevant requirements and requirements in the area of cultural heritage through demand monitoring within target groups and international benchmarking,
• increase the acceptance and reach a high level of distribution by integrating the arts and culture community during the entire process of the project,
• develop an everyday, easy to use self-evaluation tool for cultural institutions on a digital basis,
• make this tool online and offline available as an internal security management tool for cultural institutions,
• methodically collect the status quo about the safety of movable cultural assets and make the results available in a report and
• derive action and consulting recommendations for relevant bodies.

 

The project KuKuRisk is intended to unify existing initiatives of cultural associations and the federal government and to strengthen initiated initiatives through synergies and strategic measures.
