Reliable intruder detection within a safety zone is essential for the protection of critical infrastructures and provides ways to optimize the crisis management process

Reliable intruder detection within a safety zone is essential for the protection of critical infrastructures and provides ways to optimize the crisis management process. While for fixed installations a variety of surveillance solutions are available, the mobile and temporary use of such systems has not yet been considered. Various threat scenarios and tasks in crisis management, however, require exactly the capabilities of a fast, mobile and reconfigurable system setup. Accordingly, in this project we address the combination of an innovative multi-camera system concept which can be set up easily and works with visual analysis of different sensory data in space and time in order to derive reliable high-level concepts (detected humans, motion path, and activity). The proposed processing scheme based on spatially and temporally aggregated visual information is anticipated to significantly lower the ambiguity associated with visual processing and to enable human detection in challenging situations, representing a performance beyond current state of the art.
