StegIT as fully developed anti-steganographic solution will make a contribution to the growth of the home security market, the increase of business and society security
Steganography is the science to transmit information in such a way that some observer actually does not recognize that a transmission was in progress even if he has full control over the data channel. Because of the spreading of Internet telephony (VoIP) and the intelligence of mobile phones a sharp increase of steganography is to be expected in the future.
The goal of the first StegIT project in 2007 was to frustrate the usage of steganography in combination with Internet telephony (VoIP) and mobile communications. The know-how emerged by the first project and the results are needed to understand highly complex steganographic offences and to realise effective methods of defence. The latest steganographic methods are concerning embedding processes like Echo Hiding, Pre/Post Masking, Frequency Masking and Slope Alteration. The development of special methods and prototypes of modern steganographic offences which are hardly on the market today will be the first stage of this current project.
In addition steganographic methods are necessary to test defensive measures. The second project stage which is the industrial exploration and development of transformation methods is built on these results. In consequence concrete procedures including workable prototypes are expected. The last project stage will be concerned with patents and publications, updating of technology assessment (first KIRAS project), influence on digital rights management (DRM) and the development of a business plan.
With this project excellence in security research should be built up. StegIT as fully developed anti-steganographic solution will make a contribution to the growth of the home security market, the increase of business and society security. The project has also a high potential for economic and social use.
