Evaluation of civil protection measures in Austria

The aim of the research project is to improve the civil protection in Austria by evaluating the current civil protection measures. It is reached by multi-level structured surveys of different target groups (inhabitants and experts) in different organizational units and geographical areas. On the one hand the project surveys the acceptance of and satisfaction with civil protection measures within the population. Emphasis within the population survey lies on the subjective security feeling, the security needs, the confidence into the official authorities, (acceptance of) technology and the communication in case of a crisis or catastrophe. On the other hand expert opinions regarding the status quo and future developments within the area of civil protection, the estimated value of prevention measures and the managing of catastrophes and crisis are surveyed. In the expert interviews also the current training modules of the civil protection school are evaluated. The results, including suggestions for improvement can find entrance in the development of future training modules.
