ASaP - Airport Security and Productivity

Created by Eintrag in der Sicherheitsforschungslandkarte | |   Call 2007

The project aimed to maintain and increase the high level of security of Vienna International Airport (VIE), while also enhancing its efficiency

ASaP addressed the growing security requirements introduced globally in the wake of 9/11, combined with a strong customer focus. A higher level of perceived security and shorter waiting times at the security checks substantially enhance passenger comfort. Airport operators see a high level of security on the entire premises as a key prerequisite for smooth operations without false alarms and their expensive consequences such as the evacuation of departure lounges.

The ASaP project succeeded in developing innovative technological solutions for the future core tasks of airports: security-relevant management of enormous video data streams, left luggage, coordination of security personnel according to peaks in passenger traffic at specific security gates, biometric access control for airport personnel to non-public areas, development of automatic border control procedures including the use of biometric ID documents, higher throughput at security checks (x-ray) and continuous personnel qualification measures against the background of fast-paced changes in work-related knowledge environments.
